"During the night of August 19, 2001, the sound of breaking glass emanated from an Ottawa gallery. Inside, the jewellery of graduating Georgian College jewellery students lay elegantly displayed. In the dead of night, persons unknown smashed a display case and made off with some treasures. The story lies not only in what they took but, more significant, in what they left behind...
The crook smashed the window, then smashed the showcase containing O'Connor's designs and made off with her work, leaving everything else behind. Now, you could say the thieves were pressed for time. But more likely there is some sort of back-handed compliment here.
O'connor works hard to keep clients happy. Jewellery, she says, is no longer and expression of wealth. Instead, it is an expression of one's personality. The more outgoing you are, for example, the adventuresome your jewellery."
